Skincare Myths

When it comes to skincare, there are so many myths that are going round. When it comes to figuring out fact from fiction it can be a little tricky, but it’s important to maintain healthy, glowing skin. Let’s go through and debunk some of the most common skincare myths to help keep you inform and make the right decisions for your skin routine.

Myth #1: You Don’t Need Sunscreen on Cloudy Days

Fact: UV rays can still penetrate through clouds and this can still cause damage. Yes, even on overcast days up to 80% of UV rays can reach your skin. So in saying this you must always wear sunscreen rain, hail or shine to protect your skin from harmful UV radiation and prevent premature ageing.

Myth #2: Expensive Skincare Products Work Better

Fact: Just because the price tag is higher doesn’t mean the product is always better. There are heaps of affordable products that contain high-quality ingredients that will work just as good, if not better than high end products. So, when choosing skincare products focus on the ingredients and what they will do for your skin, rather than the the price.

Myth #3: Natural Ingredients Are Always Better

Fact: While natural ingredients can be beneficial, they can also cause your skin to have an allergic reaction or cause skin irritation. This means you have to pick products that will suit your skin type. Always do a test patch to test the product on your skin before trying a new product.

Myth #4: Oily Skin Doesn’t Need Moisturiser

Fact: Even though you have oily it can still get dehydrated. You can use a lightweight, oil-free moisturiser to help keep your skin balanced and it will help keep your skin hydrated without clogging your pores. AND did you know that skipping moisturiser can actually make your skin worse, and your skin might be producing more oil to compensate for the lack of hydration.

Myth #5: You Can Shrink Your Pores

Fact: You can’t change the size of your pores, but you can minimise their appearance with these easy steps, cleansing, exfoliation, and products that will improve your skins texture. Using non-comedogenic products and keeping your skin clean can help prevent your pores from becoming enlarged.

Myth #6: Tanning Clears Up Acne

Fact: All tanning does it temporarily hide your acne, but tanning can actually lead to more breakouts and it can increase the risk of skin cancer. The sun’s UV rays can cause your skin to dry out and this will lead to more oil being produced, which then leads to more acne
